“Terrilynn! BE QUIET!!”
…That should be the subtitle of my show. My family, friends, co-workers, spouses, lovers, ex-lovers, teachers and members of the majority white patriarchal culture have all at some point in time told me to be quiet. Perhaps, that is why I became a storyteller—to tell my truth, the truths of my ancestors and the truths of oppressed people.
Stolen Lives has 3 acts: The Epiphanies—in which I share moments of my life that still shape my world views; There Is No Reflection In Her Mirror—details my mother’s descent into Alzheimers while I was her primary caretaker; and They Once Knew Magic—my adaptation of a folktale told by the Gullah and GeeChee people who were stolen from Africa and pressed into slavery in America.
